Akim Jerusalem at a Glance
AKIM-Jerusalem was founded in 1951 by the Spiegel family—parents who believed their intellectually disabled son could achieve independence in the community. They broadened their vision to care for young adults throughout Jerusalem with disabilities similar to their son’s challenges. Over the years, AKIM-Jerusalem has advanced a range of programs, from after-school programs for children to projects for teens, adapted employment for adults and sensitive care to meet the needs of aging adults. In 2021, AKIM-Jerusalem celebrates its seventieth year of achievement and inclusion for children, youth and adults with intellectual disabilities.
